Herbert Art Gallery
To enhance their 'Buckets and Spades' theme, Year 1 enjoyed a trip to the Herbert Art Gallery. Through dressing up as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the children learned how a visit to the seaside in the past was very different to today. Two of the royal children played with quoits, a hoop and stick and hobby horses. All the children dressed up in Victorian clothing and experienced many artefacts including a chamber pot, 'penny a lick' ice creams and old fashioned bathing costumes. The children looked at paintings and sculptures and even re-created a human sculpture! The visit has stimulated much discussion and was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children.
