Literacy
At Allesley Hall Primary School we implement the National Literacy Strategy which is made up of a number of parts:
- Speaking and Listening
- Reading
- Writing and
- Spelling
The children follow the range of texts and the objectives for each year as set out in the Literacy Strategy.
The children are involved in a daily Literacy lesson which last for one hour and once a week have an extended writing lesson. Spelling and handwriting take place in a separate lesson.
Generally the lessons are split up into three sections
- a whole class study of texts to develop the children’s reading or writing skills and focus on word or sentence work. Often children play literacy games at this time.
- group work where one group works with the teacher or a teaching assistant on a task, while the remainder of the class work on independent activities.
- the lesson ends with a time of reviewing learning that has taken place
We use ICT in our Literacy lessons and deliver the lessons with different teaching styles to help children with their acquisition of Literacy skills.
