Religious Education

Religious Education enables children to investigate and reflect on some of the most fundamental questions asked by people. AHPS has an R.E. Scheme of Work which has its roots in the Coventry Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. Religions studied include Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and Buddhism.

At AHPS, we promote mutual respect and understanding of everyone’s beliefs.  Children learn about lifestyles and practices and how people express themselves through religion.

We are keen to promote high quality speaking and listening during our RE lessons and much of the learning takes place through discussion and sharing of ideas. We recognise the fact that in our school we have children of widely differing abilities, so when teaching RE, we ensure that we provide learning opportunities matched to the needs of the children.

We base our teaching and learning in RE on the key principle that good teaching allows children to both learn about religious traditions and to reflect on what religious ideas and concepts mean to them.  Our teaching enables children to extend their own sense of values and promotes their spiritual growth and development.

Our collective worship (assembly) often supports our RE teaching. We can sometimes be found enthusiastically singing an Easter song, or learning a world tune to share at an event. We encourage individual thought during assembly time and our new SEAL (Social and Emotional aspects of Learning) lessons further support mutual respect and understanding.
