Science
The science curriculum at Allesley Hall Primary is delivered through the QCA science scheme of work. The topics are supported with the LCP science resource files, planning from the science advisory service and web-based resources.
Much of the science curriculum is based upon developing children's skills of scientific enquiry. Scientific enquiry is taught through contexts taken from topics such as life processes and living things, materials and their properties and physical processes. Children are encouraged to think creatively in planning experimental work. They are taught to obtain and present evidence and consider evidence in evaluating investigations. Children also relate their understanding of science to their own experiences.
The science curriculum also links to other subject areas. It is used to support numeracy, literacy and geography. At Allesley Hall we aim to promote understanding of current environmental concerns such as climatic change, energy use and conservation. This is also linked to the schools Eco-school programme.
To ensure progression in science, children's skills of scientific enquiry are assessed annually. Learning objectives for specific topics are assessed at the end of each topic. Assessments can be practical or written. |
