We have high expectations for and of our children. We will always strive to give them the very best and in turn we expect them to give their very best in all they do.
- To actively promote or AHPS Values
We aim to nurture close working relationships with parents and carers to ensure our school aims are fully achieved.
Promoting British Values at Allesley Hall Primary School
The Department for Education states that schools must “promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
At Allesley Hall Primary School we actively promote these values through our own school values of honesty, tolerance and respect and an expectation that everyone has a right to achieve through effort and excellence.
Democracy
Democracy is embedded within our school. Children are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and with concern to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voice heard. Children also have the opportunity to air their opinions and ideas through our School Council and annual questionnaires. The elections of the School Council members are based solely on pupil votes, reflecting our British electoral system and demonstrating democracy in action.
The Rule of Law
Every year each class discusses and sets its own rules that are clearly understood by all. These ensure that every child is able to learn in a safe and ordered environment. Our children are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.
Individual Liberty
Within our school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Our work in P.S.H.E. and e-safety enable them to learn to exercise their rights and personal freedom based on a sound knowledge base. Whether it is through choice of challenge; of how they record; of participation in our numerous extra-curricular activities - our children are given the freedom to make choices.
Mutual Respect
Respect is one of the core values of our school as can be seen in our mission statement. Through assemblies and dedicated PSHE lessons, children are taught to respect themselves, other people, belongings and learning. They learn to respect differences - however big or small. The core value of Respect also underpins daily learning for every child, both in and out of the classroom.
Tolerance of Those With Different Faiths And Beliefs
We actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures. Religious Education and PSHE lessons reinforce the messages of tolerance and respect for others. We value the backgrounds of all our families and members of different faiths are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. Throughout their time at Allesley Hall, the children visit a variety of places of worship including synagogues, temples, a variety of different churches and an Islamic exhibition. Visitors are also invited in to our school to enrich and extend the children’s understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society.
