School Council Elections

Democracy in Action

Children from Year 2 – 6 have been busy preparing for School Council elections this week. They have talked to their classes about why they believe they would make a great school councillor. The children were visited by Councillors Jayne Innes and Pervez Akhtar on Thursday afternoon. The councillors talked to them about the voting process. They explained to the children their roles in Coventry and talked about the importance of the democratic process. This really was a  wonderful insight for all of our children. This has culminated in our Allesley Hall voting day today. Children have been into the hall to cast their vote under the close supervision of Mrs Rush who has been our elections coordinator. They have completed ballot   papers and placed their votes into ballot boxes to be counted. The results will be announced in our whole school assembly on Monday. It as been wonderful to see our children engaged in the voting process – true democracy in action!
